'burning the olympic flame' at gallery Gerhardt Braun, Palma de Mallorca, April 2014 the worktitle of this project of course derives from actual situation (the just ended olympic-, paralympic games and their political impact to the rest of the world), but also the artists own history as of a formerly driven sportsman. demolishing history and normal understanding the artist will led us to a new point of interest. in the very first moment one would look at the work like it's done accidentially, that it just happened on no further purpose, like a childrens drawing, an enlarged doodle that was randomly done on a sheet of paper during a telephone call, that is enlarged in space - fragile, but also very concrete very present at the same time. actually the work has more in common with the traces of graffiti, tags sprayers do to mark a territory and share a sign, a signal and a meaning. there is this rebellious charakter in it, that art often works with to cross common borders, common understanding and let into unexpected new realm of personal sight. there is an ambiguity the work comes with (no singular way to read) the artist is laying out traces to read in many ways, a lot of interpretation is possible. 'burning the olympic flame' looks like a third worlds sign imitating big brands and common signal. It's an art that makes fun of big names (bitter sharp, ironic in some way) and uses them for its own purpose, surprise and entertainment of the viewer.
